Stowe Alpine Club

Seeking all Old Stoics and current Stoics with an interest or passion for mountain sports. The Stowe Alpine Club is looking for anyone of any age and any ability to join us. The Alpine club is in its early stages, but already has quite a few keen past and present stoics looking to join forces and go ski touring, ice climbing, rock climbing, hill walking, cross country skiing, or even expeditions. So far we have members of all abilities and interests. We have a WhatsApp group to keep you up to date with everyone’s movements, successes, and plans.

We will be holding a couple of dinners (London and Edinburgh) where members can meet and exchange stories, make plans, and listen to some interesting mountain professional speakers. We look forward to hearing from you.

The Golfing Society is very active as the Fixture List for 2020 demonstrates. We have matches, meetings and team events at fantastic courses including Sunningdale, Royal St Georges, Deal, Formby, Hunstanton, Brancaster, Aldeburgh, Woodhall Spa, Little Aston and Woking.
Although the team events such as the Halford Hewitt, Grafton Morrish and Cyril Gray require low handicap players, male and female golfers of all standards are very welcome at the meetings and matches.
We are keen to attract younger Old Stoic golfers. All those under 30 qualify for a 50% reduction in the cost of green fees at all meetings and matches.

OS Racing Club

The Old Stoic Racing Club (OSRC) is now in its fourth season and we are delighted to have horses in training with two Old Stoic trainers. Jonathan Portman (Chatham 83) is our flat trainer in Lambourn and whilst Alex Hales (Chandos 92) overseeing the jumps just on the outskirts of Banbury.

The Club has received wide support with past pupils, parents, their friends plus the occasional staff member of Stowe all involved with leaving years of the pupils represented from 1954-2004.

Whilst both Racing Clubs are currently full, we are actively looking for past pupils and parents in particular to help us form new syndicates. Therefore if you would like to be put on the mailing list then please contact the Old Stoic office.

A flavour of what owners can expect to receive:

  • Owners badges when your horse races
  • Box hospitality at certain meetings
  • Numerous visits to the trainer’s yards to watch the OS horses work on the gallops
  • Regular progress emails, photos and videos of your horses
  • Join a private OSRC Facebook page
  • An invitation for you and a guest to the annual end of season lunch back at Stowe
  • A percentage share in all prize money generated by both horses
  • Invitations to specially organised events including preview evenings and visits to Stud Farms

Bourbon Beauty

This good-looking daughter of Great Pretender has been leased to the Racing Club. She finished third out of four runs in national hunt flat races including in the Mares Listed Finale at Kempton back in March. She will be aimed over hurdles in the autumn and should be more than capable of winning one. The Racing Club is also delighted that the school link will extend further through Harry Bannister (Chatham 12) being her regular jockey when available.

Vive La Danse

This good looking colt is a son of French Navy out of Alice’s Dancer. His dam won six races and just shy of £50,000 in prize money with her career high finishing third in the Listed Prix Fourrages in Craon over 1 mile.

French Navy is standing at Darley Stud but he had a strong race record. During an illustrious career he notched 11 wins from 23 races including the Diomed Stakes (Group 3) and the Earl of Sefton Stakes (Group 3). Vive La Danse is likely to run in races from 1 mile upwards in due course and we are excited about his future as he has been pleasing his trainer on the gallops in recent weeks.
