Equestrian Activities

Pupils are able to ride every day of the week as part of the Sports and Activities Programme (3:30-5:30pm Monday-Friday), on Saturday afternoons and for most of the day on Sundays. Sixth Form pupils can also access the Equestrian Centre during study periods.

The Head of Equestrian ensures a varied schedule is created on a weekly basis which is flexible around academic and extracurricular commitments. Pupils will be encouraged to work on flat work, jumping (if desired), as well as hacking to improve strength, stamina and skills.

Staff are on hand to support pupils with all aspects of equine care and management in order to promote an enjoyable, challenging and safe environment for both horse and rider.

  • Show-jumping, dressage and eventing is offered at Stowe.
  • Lessons are offered individually or for up to four pupils at a time.
  • Our team liaises with trainers to ensure the correct level of one-to-one coaching and instruction is available to our Equestrians.
  • The Head of Equestrian identifies the most suitably accredited trainers and instructors and ensures that they have the recognised qualifications (coaching/health and safety/first aid training etc.) and have undergone the relevant safeguarding checks.

Equestrian Team

Our Equestrian Team is open to all pupils who have a horse, at home or at School. Our team is hugely successful, regularly winning at national, championship and local events.

We are active members of the National Schools’ Equestrian Association and enter and support individuals and teams at competitions throughout the year.

Our riders also regularly take part in affiliated and unaffiliated competitions across the country.

The Equestrian Centre is fully operational 365 days a year, ensuring complete flexibility for Parents and pupils throughout the holidays.

A discount is applied, per calendar week, if a horse is taken home during the School holidays.

Short-term Livery
Pupils who do not stable their horses at Stowe are offered the opportunity to take short-term livery during School holidays.

Equestrian Welfare

All aspects of equine welfare are co-ordinated by the Head of Equestrian to ensure your horse is always receiving the highest level of care.

We work closely with Buckingham Equine Vets, a multi-award winning independently owned veterinary practice, who are dedicated to providing the very highest standard of care. They are a dedicated equine specific team, all with many years experience in treating horses.

Our farrier attends the Equestrian Centre on a weekly basis.

We also work with physiotherapists, chiropractors, saddle-fitters and other Equestrian specialists.

At Stowe we believe that our people play a crucial role in the development of our pupils.

Our Equestrian Centre is led by an experienced Head of Equestrian who supports our riders to achieve their goals.

With outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, our team works with the School, pupils, Parents and other stakeholders to ensure a first-class experience.
