The Rugby programme at Stowe caters for all pupils whether they are seeking a professional career in the game or simply enjoying participating at their own level. We provide for all and believe the coaching structure helps players of all ability to achieve their maximum potential. As a result our fixture list has developed into a extremely competitive programme which is designed to challenge our teams. We field 5 Senior teams and 3 or 4 Junior teams at each U16, U15 and U14 level.
The 1st XV partake in a weekly S&C programme, video analysis and position specific sessions as well as Pilates, pool recovery sessions to maximise their development. Our 1st XV have all their fixtures against Daily Mail Schools Trophy status and currently enter the Champions Cup against the best schools in the country. The U15s enter the Nat West Cup and all age groups enter the Rosslyn Park National 7s tournament in the Spring term where Stowe won as recently as 2016.
Stowe provides the opportunity for pupils to go on to sign professional contracts and obtain favourable offers at their preferred choice of University. We are very fortunate to have strong relationships with both Northampton Saints and Wasps Academies. Boys selected by these clubs attend their DPP and PDG evening training sessions with the Northampton Saints Alliance group using the Stowe School pitches as their satellite centre which gives them and excellent window into the outside world and a measure of the standard that needs to be achieved to be successful.
We celebrate performance, commitment and importantly passion and enjoyment of the game. Rugby is a sport that brings out the best in the individual behaving as a team player and the core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship are regularly highlighted to pupils. We coach to develop the mind, to overcome obstacles and to make decisions, as an extension of our entire academic and pastoral programme.
Facilities & Staff at Stowe
We are fortunate to have one of the moist iconic XV pitches in the country with the spectacular North Front. This is a truly inspiring and aspirational setting for pupils and staff. Pupils also train on the Bourbon site where we have an additional 7 rugby pitches. Most of our teams have two members of staff coaching them during the week, with members of the Common room supporting vastly experienced coaches in the programme which is headed up by Grant Seely, former Northampton Saints player and academy coach.
