Mark Fenwick (Bruce 81) writes, "I was diagnosed with a cancer in my duodenum in November. Since then the medical team have identified it as a Gastro Intenstinal Stromal Tumor (GIST), this is one of those lucky cancers that you learn to live with rather than die from.

Over the last five months I have been using the Maggie's Centre in Newcastle alongside Northern Cancer Care Centre at The Freeman Hospital to help in my recovery.  Maggies's provide, practical social and emotional support for myself, family and friends.

So as part of my preparation for a major operation sometime in the next six to nine months I have decided to get fit and start doing some long distance walking. I live in Northumberland and so I am blessed with a number of routes to choose.

I have decided on completing a 97 mile, six day walk called St Oswald's Way between Lindisfarne and Holy Island. I will start on 4  July 2017."
