Golf1

Here is news of a busy late April/early May and details of more to come - Please consider the excellent Summer Meeting at Aldeburgh on 1/2 July - full details below and attached.

Don't wait to be asked to play just contact the meeting or match manager - all their details are listed below.

Spring Meeting at Woking: 29 April
19 golfers attended the Spring Meeting held at Wisteria adorned Woking. In the morning Charlie Saunders won the Memorial Bowl with 39 points on a count back against Angus Campbell with Paul McSweeney (38) and Hugo Douglass (37) also posting good scores. Angus Campbell had the best scratch score with a 76 with Chris Luddington one shot back. Debutant Josh Wheeler won the Foster Salver (U30) with an excellent 38 points. In the afternoon foursomes the youngsters Josh Wheeler and Freddie Elliott were clear winners with 37 points with David Ewbank and Paul McSweeney second. Thanks to meeting manager and Captain Nick Luddington for a great day.

Match v Canford at Sunningdale: 30th April
Stewart McNair's team retained the trophy with a halved match with Canford. Good wins for Stephen Wilcox & Ben Dixey and Paul Marshall & Tony Edgeley was followed by a gritty half from the Captain and Simon Chilton who fought back from 3 down. A useful practice for the aspiring Cyril Gray players - 22-24 June at Worplesdon.

Grafton Morrish Qualifying at North Hants: 7 May
Lack of availability weakened the team that played at the challenging North Hants course and the OSGS will not have an opportunity in October to improve on last year's Semi Final achievement. A solid 28 points from Sean Morris and David Johnstone was the only highlight.

Match v The Templars at Deal: 20 May
David Ewbank ewbank77@btinternet.com has Charlie Dimpfl, Josh Wheeler, Hugo Douglass and Peter Simmons in his team to take on Tom Sleater and the Templars. One more player needed to complete the team. This is a fun match on a great links course and as with all fixtures a 50% green fee discount is available for under 30s.

Match v The School at Stowe: 27 May
Captain, Nick Luddington, currently has brother Chris, Johnny Rowe, Peter Comber, Julian Stocks, Richard Wood, David Ewbank and Peter Simmons lined up to take on the School team. The School Golf Professional, Andrew Hancox, can provide more good quality opposition if anyone else wants to play. It is a 9.30am tee off followed by a picnic on the South Front. Contact me if you are interested.

Summer Meeting at Aldeburgh: 1 & 2 July

Attached are full details and an entry form for this great meeting which is superbly organised by Perry Hunt. There is also the opportunity to play in a warm up match against the club on Friday afternoon (30 June). There is plenty for non golfers to do in and around Aldeburgh, a 50% green fee discount for under 30s and Perry and I will help with accommodation options.

If you have not attended this meeting before I strongly recommend it to you. We compete for the Society's premier singles trophy, the Buchanan, on Saturday morning with two foursomes trophies on offer on Sunday morning.
Please contact Perry perryhunt@keme.co.uk or me if you have any queries about this meeting.

We look forward to seeing you at an OSGS match or meeting over the next two months.
