OSGS October Newsletter

3 October 2019

p5

September was a busy month for the Society - full details below.

There are three more fixtures in 2019 but unfortunately they are all sold out!

The 2020 Fixture List is in preparation and should be circulated in November

RESULTS

11 September Match v The School at Stoke Park:

An encouragingly youthful team of Alex Saary, Ollie Clarke, James Nash, Hugo Douglass, Sol Boyd (OSGS debut) and Brennan Gough (OSGS debut) produced a 2-1 win over a School team that included three Golf Scholars. Ollie Clarke demonstrated his Halford Hewitt credentials while the other leftie, James Nash, was on great form. A battling effort from Sol and Brennan on debut.

14 September Match v 2009 Leavers at Stowe:

Hugo Douglass, Hannah Durden, Charles Dimpfl, Peter Simmons, John Rowe, Mark Flawn Thomas (OSGS debut) and Alim Jinnah (OSGS debut) managed a 3.5 to 0.5 win over the 2009 Leavers on Old Stoic Day. It was a fun match and we hope that the 2009 Leavers will join in other OSGS activities in 2020. Many thanks to William Schofield for suggesting the match and organising the 2009 team.

'Farewell to the Old Course' Saturday 28 September 2019More photos on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/osgolfers

33 Old Stoic Golfers took part in the 'Farewell' event last Saturday. The course showed what a challenge it is with only one player matching their handicap. Chatham had a clean sweep of the prizes with Tim Maynard best scratch score, Nigel Wright best Stableford score and winning the House Competition with 104 (best 3 scores) with Walpole 2nd with 99 points. Drinks and an excellent lunch was held in the Blue Room with Pam Benka Simpson, who played in the official opening of the course in Oct 1964 and was the first Lady President of England Golf, presenting the prizes. Many thanks to Anna Semler (Old Stoic Office Director) and Colin Dudgeon (Stowe Development Director) for their support on the day, Stowe Golf Club for drinks halfway round and to Steve Curley for the fantastic condition of the course.
