September News:

Tour of the New Stowe Golf Course by OSGS Members - 15 September
The Headmaster, Colin Dudgeon (Stowe Development Director) and Andrew Hancox (Stowe Director of Golf) presented details on the School's ambitions to offer the finest school course in the country so golf can continue to develop at Stowe. Following the presentation and lunch a tour of the course was led by the course architect from STRI. There was a very positive response from the 20+ OSGS visitors with regards to the potential of the new course which measures 3,204 yards from the white tees and is due to open in April/May 2020. The layout includes a short game practice area but the location of the proposed Driving Range is yet to be confirmed, although it is hoped to be available when the course opens. The Stowe Golf Club will fund the building of a new Clubhouse between the Bourbon Fields and the new course, while for Safeguarding reasons, Stoics will have a dedicated Locker Room and 'Lounge' area within the new Bourbon Sports Pavilion which is scheduled for completion in Autumn 2020.

Due to the tour of the New Course it was agreed to cancel the Match v The School scheduled for the same day.

Match v The School at Stoke Park, 26 September - 1.5 to 1.5
This match is played courtesy of Chester King at Stoke Park. Despite the School team being without its two Golf Scholars (Max Faulkner playing in ISGA World Ranking Invitational and Chanel in the Grand Final of Sky Junior European Championship) they managed an excellent half. Alex Saary in his first match for OSGS since the Semi Finals of the Halford Hewitt in 1995 partnered recent Stowe Leaver, Pierse Odell, to a half against School Captain, Lochie Shillington and Max Smith. OSGS Captain, Nick Luddington and James Nash narrowly lost to Tom Riley and Tom Youds while Paul McSweeney and Adam Carling managed a win against Tom Scott and Ed Snushall.

October and November Fixtures:

Autumn Meeting at Hunstanton, 20 & 21 October Full - reserve list only
This year the Meeting is at Hunstanton with foursomes and singles on Saturday and a further round on Sunday. The following are down to play: Nick & Chris Luddington, Angus Campbell, Charlie Consett, James Fortescue, Alec Moore, Paul McSweeney, David Ewbank, Nigel Wright, Neil Gray, Tim Maynard, Don Jeffreys, Adam Carling, Chris Hutber, John Da Silva,  Peter Simmons  and Matt Bazeley. That means we have the maximum allowed - the first time for a  while. The OSGS AGM will take place after play on Saturday and the Agenda for the meeting is attached. Updates on the New Stowe Course and plans for a last event on the current course will be covered by the Captain's and Secretary's Reports
The Saturday night dinner will be at a new venue, The Heacham Manor Hotel.

Dick Watson Trophy at Aldeburgh, 13 & 14 October
Having just missed out on the final last year coming 3rd of 15 schools, Jeremy Scowsill and his team of William Hill, Nigel Wright and Ian Bendell will be looking to do even better. This is an increasingly popular fixture and we have benefited from having the same team for the last three years.

Match v Haileybury at Sunningdale, 18 November
Peter Comber peter.comber@parkasset.com has a team of 12 to defend the trophy the Old Stoics won last year. The team includes Nick & Chris Luddington, William Waddell Dudley, Lorne Williamson, Nick Rice, Paul McSweeney, John Da Silva, Josh Wheeler, David Ewbank and Peter - apologies to the two names I have forgotten.

2019 Fixture List
Planning for the 2019 Fixture List is well advanced. It is hoped that it will be circulated early in December as well as being added to the Old Stoic section of the Stowe website.

Please pass this email onto any Old Stoics that you think will be interested in getting involved.
