OSGS January Newsletter

10 January 2019

Happy New Year.

Attached is a new Fixture List for 2019 which includes 25 matches, meetings and team events from early March to mid November. There is one correction from the list circulated last month in that the Midlands Public Schools Meeting takes place on 26 June.

Details of the early season events are listed below - don't wait to be asked to play just contact the Match/Meeting Manager or me.

Please pass this newsletter onto any Old Stoic Golfers who you think would be interested in taking part in the growing number of fixtures. The OSGS is for all Old Stoic Golfers, male and female, of all standards. We are keen to encourage younger Old Stoics to take part and discounts are available for all fixtures.

Duncan Marshall Andrew
Sadly we report that Duncan passed away before Christmas. Duncan was a larger than life character who was a stalwart of the OSGS for many decades winning most of the Society's trophies. He was a regular fixture in the Halford Hewitt team from 1957 to 1977 including the 1962 loss in the final. He successfully partnered other well known OSGS players including David Wright, Nigel Stern, Peter Cooper, Mike Anderson and Bob Durrant and in the early 70's was joined in the team by younger Brother, Bruce. Duncan was in the winning Cyril Gray team in both 1992 and 1999. There are many anecdotes about Duncan often involving driving cars or flying helicopters or planes. Our thoughts are with his wife, Sheila, and sons, Angus and Jim, at this difficult time.

A Memorial Service is being held at St Nicholas Church, Wells Next The Sea, Norfolk NR23 1PX at 2pm on Saturday 19 January
