One Life

12 January 2024

At Stowe, we are very proud of Old Stoic Sir Nicholas Winton (Grenville 26). One of our boys’ Day Houses is named in his honour and we were delighted that he opened one of our girls’ Boarding Houses, Stanhope, in 2009.

One of the first pupils to join Stowe in 1923, he went on to be knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to humanity, for rescuing 669 children from the Nazis.

We are thrilled that the incredible work that Sir Nicholas did, in saving all those lives, has been made into a new film, and the World can appreciate his actions. ‘One Life’ chronicles how Sir Nicholas brought the young, mostly Jewish refugees from German-occupied Czechoslovakia to the UK in 1939.
