Old Stoic Sports Festival 2024

19 March 2024

The Old Stoics Sports Festival is our friendly competition day for matches between Stoics and Old Stoics. Held at Stowe, this event brings together Old Stoics of a wide age range from all across the country to return to the sports pitches at Stowe. The Festival showcases a diverse range of eight different sports. From the adrenaline-pumping clash of lacrosse sticks to the precision of clay pigeon shooting, the Sports Festival has something for everyone.  This year we were delighted to welcome over 100 Old Stoics on the morning of 17 March.

The day kicked off with a dramatic twist—the weather. We faced torrential rain in the morning and feared some of our matches may not go ahead but, happily, the rain cleared, as the droves arrived to commence play. This year’s line-up included Hockey (mens’ and womens’), football, tennis, cross country, clay pigeon Shooting, lacrosse and Fives.

All matches reported good close competitions with Stoics showing off their youth and energy and the Old Stoics playing their trump card of experience. Happily, Old Stoics won most of the games and a particularly muddy cross-country finishing in a draw.

Our Old Stoics guests then enjoyed an informal lunch in the Marble Hall and Music Room, allowing them the opportunity to catch with old friends and meet new ones.

We would like to thank the sports staff that ran the matches for us, along with everyone who lent a hand with the arrangements for the day.
