Stowe win the Micklem Trophy

Stowe won the postponed Micklem Trophy played at Winchester GC on 16th June. This is the School's first win since 1991 despite being in the final for the last five years. Congratulations to the team and the new Master in Charge of Golf, Dusan Gavrilovic

RESULTS

Alba Trophy at Woking 3rd June:

Jean-Michel Hall and Max Faulkner represented the Society in this prestigious 36 hole scratch foursomes event. There 42 pairs competing and Jean-Michel and Max came mid-table.

Midlands Public Schools Meeting at Little Aston 21st June:

Unfortunately we did not raise a team for this fixture. We need to consider whether this fixture continues on our list given we have not been able to field a team since 2018 - all suggestions welcome

Cyril Gray at Worplesdon 21-23rd June:

The team of Peter Jarvis, Guy Robinson, Martyn Palmer, William Hill, Stewart McNair and Tim Maynard beat City of London 2-1 in the first round but came up against an inspired Glenalmond who played fantastic golf, including a hole in one, to win 3-0.

President Stewart McNair played with David Julius in the Senior Cyril Gray (Combined age of 140) and equalled the best score but lost on countback.

Summer Meeting at Aldeburgh 1st/2nd July:

A superb weekend despite the reduced numbers. On Friday the Society managed to half the match (1.5-1.5) against Aldeburgh GC with Peters Wood and Simmons getting a win on the 18th. In an excellent addition to the programme a 9 hole competition on the challenging River Course was won by William Hill with 19 points. In the afternoon in windy conditions Jeremy Scowsill scored a good 79 to win the Buchanan Trophy and Ollie Carr scored 32 points to win the Bob Durrant Stableford Salver. In the foursomes Ollie Carr and Nick Luddington retained the Choyce Trophies (under 100 combined) with Peter Wood and Peter Simmons winning the Chatham over 50s cups. Many thanks to Meeting Manager, Peter Wood, who organised an excellent meeting as well as a drinks gathering followed by dinner at the Lighthouse that included other local Old Stoics including past President, Perry Hunt. Date for the Diary: Halford Hewitt Centenary Dinner 10th January 2024

2024 marks the Halford Hewitt Centenary. As part of the celebrations a special dinner is being held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Wednesday 10th January, during which the draw for the 2024 Centenary competition will take place. Each School is allocated 12 dinner tickets at a subsidised cost of £120 with further tickets available at £160. The entry fee to the HH has been increased in 2023 and 2024 to help fund the celebrations.

Full details of the dinner will be circulated by the organisers in the near future.

At this stage please contact me, pjgsimmons@gmail.com if you would like to attend the dinner - this will provide an idea of the level of interest. Team members from the winning sides of 1979 and 1988 may be particularly interested.
