Old Stoic Golfing Society Extra June Update 

A short extra update this month to highlight some developments in Stowe golf and push some fixtures that need extra players.

Stowe golf developments:

Some of you will be aware that Andrew Hancox who was Director of Golf since 2016 left the School in March. Dusan Gavrilovic started as Master in Charge of Golf on 5th June and is being pitched straight into the fray as the postponed Micklem Trophy takes place at Winchester GC on 16th June and Stowe take on Brentwood in the Regional Final of the ISGA Championship on 21st June.

We wish Dusan and the team all the best for the remaining fixtures this month.

Summer Meeting at Aldeburgh 1st/2nd July: More players needed

This is a great meeting on an iconic course and it deserves more participants than the 7 currently down to play over the weekend. 

Peter Wood pscwood@talk21.com is the Meeting Manager and would welcome more players. 

You do not need to play the whole weekend and just playing the singles on Saturday or foursomes on Sunday is quite acceptable.

The  programme includes an excellent meal on Saturday evening at the Lighthouse in Aldeburgh. 

There is also a match v Aldeburgh GC (Captained by Perry Hunt) on Friday afternoon (30th June) if you fancy a sociable warm up game.

So far Peter Wood, Ollie Carr, William Hill, Nick Luddington, Jeremy Scowsill, Orlando MacDonald-Buchanan and Peter Simmons are down to play but more are needed to compete for the prestigious Buchanan Scratch Trophy, the Bob Durrant Stableford Salver and The Chatham & Choyce foursomes trophies.

Match v Old Merchant Taylors at Moor Park 10th August: At least 3 more players needed

Nick Rice njrice01@gmail.com is Match Manager for this mid week afternoon game. Ideally a team of 6 or 8 and so far Nick, David Hinds and Peter Simmons are down to play

Match v Old Gregorians at New Zealand 2nd September:

Ian Bendell ianbendell@hotmail.com is Match Manager for this excellent fixture and just needs a couple more players.

Centenary Competition at Stowe 23rd September:  More players urgently needed

A Shotgun Start competition similar to the 'Farewell to the Old Course' held in 2019. Individual and House team competition with lunch to follow as part of the wider Old Stoic Centenary Day being held on 23rd Sept. Organiser, Peter Simmons pjgsimmons@gmail.com

We can accommodate 40 players and only 12 have registered so far  

Walpole have 5 entries, Chandos 4, Cobham 2 and Chatham just 1. No entries from Grafton, Grenville, Temple or Lyttleton as yet. 

We need a minimum of 30 entries by early August to make this event viable - See the attached entry form.

Reminders:

- All under 30s receive a 50% discount on the green fee cost of matches, team events and meetings.

- Pass this email onto Old Stoic Golfers you think would be interested in getting involved in our fixtures at some fantastic courses. 

We are keen to encourage golfers of all handicaps and ages (male and female) to get involved. Just point them in my direction.
