Northern Senior Old Stoic Lunch

18 March 2016

On Wednesday, 9 March, I had the pleasure of meeting twenty Old Stoics who live in the North of England, over the age of seventy. Kit Clucas (Walpole 60) kindly suggested that we hold our luncheon at Shirgley Hall in Cheshire. It proved to be a wonderful location, set on a steep hill overlooking an impressive golf course.

We were served drinks in the courtyard bar before enjoying a delicious three course lunch. I gave a brief speech recalling news from the Old Stoic Society and Stowe and everyone reminisced about their days at the School. Anthony Shackleton (Walpole 61) even dug out a copy of the 1959 General Paper, which provided excellent entertainment for us all – especially given we are stretched to answer a single question!

Thank you so much for all those who attended. We are planning to make the lunch an annual occasion, so I hope to see you again next year.
