FUNKIN SOULED OUT

14 November 2018

The evening of Wednesday 14 November found a motley crew of Old Stoics including Andrew Chance, John Greenwood and Mark Flawn-Thomas, amongst other devotees, assembled in the Hadean depths of 229 Great Portland Street to witness the London debut of our very own (and soon to be OS Chairman) HANNAH DURDEN (Nugent 01) adding yet another identity to her myriad persona - that of saxophonist in a ten piece soul and blues combo, FUNKIN' SOULED OUT! ( Does this girl have any time to call her own?).

Pulsating drumbeats, thundering basslines, staccato keyboards, dextrously flicked bongos, a dynamic lead singer and back up vocalists, all held together by a really tight brass and woodwind section, gave serious vent to a non-stop stream of soul and disco classics culminating in an exuberant and Hi NRG delivery of the Thelma Houston / Communards classic "Don't Leave Me This Way" which had the audience hand clappin', foot stompin', butt shakin' and generally gyrating furiously to the extent, Dear Reader, that I damned nearly ruptured my "Groove Thang" (whatever that may be)!

A fun evening, an excellent band and seriously one to bear in mind if any of you are planning an event. Good for you, Hannah - we are all very proud of you!

By Your Man In The Mosh-Pit,
