James Elwes (Chatham 04) who has been working in the Art world for many years, is organising the first Whithurst Park Art Fair on 10 & 11 September 2016.

The Art Fair is being held to raise funds for Maggie’s, a charity that provides free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer, and their family and friends, following the ideas about cancer care originally laid out by Maggie Keswick Jencks.

Diverse artworks from an array of exciting local, national and international artists, in collaboration with a number of dynamic galleries and project spaces, will be displayed throughout. “The house and parkland form a focal point for the fair, challenging visitors to explore art in the context of everyday life and as a way of life,” explains Fair Director James Elwes.

Inspired by the neo-Jacobean house and Maggie Keswick Jencks’s legacy, the Fair will examine the minutiae of commissioning and curating for a lived-in space. There will also be an engaging programme of performances, residencies, talks and demonstrations, embracing all that is brilliant in contemporary design, as well as food and drink.

We wish James every success with this initiative and hope his efforts prove fruitful for the Charity. All Old Stoics are welcome to attend.
