A Day Without

19 December 2019

A-Day-Without

Cheshire House supported the Leonard Cheshire Charity in raising awareness of people with disabilities with their Chapel and Charity Day on Tuesday 3 December, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This day was established in 1992 by the United Nations and helps us to focus on the way we look at disability, promoting a wider understanding of disability issues. Disabilities can come in many forms, whether hidden or visible, where impairments or long-term conditions make it harder for people to interact with the world around them. Everyday people across the world have to go without some things we perhaps take for granted - just because they are disabled. Cheshire House promoted this day by encouraging the School community to make a pledge of £1 to go ‘A Day Without’ in order to make a difference to those who go without every day. These are some of the things the girls in Cheshire House went without: Chocolate Spread, Toast, Coffee and Snapchat! Through our donations we can support the Leonard Cheshire Charity with their ‘Can Do’ initiative which enables young disabled people aged 16-35 to access diverse and unique opportunities to develop in sports, IT, employment, training, education, social action, and health and well-being, enhancing their life skills, independence and ability to make choices about the way they want to live.
