Life before Stowe

I have spent most of my adult life in education in various roles internationally and in the independent sector, including pastoral and academic leadership roles, but I have always been most at home in the drama classroom. My wife and three (now grown-up) children have been the guiding force behind each new chapter, and I feel blessed that as a family we can look back together on some remarkable life experiences.

What do you enjoy most about your subject?

It’s not just one thing – it's everything! The collaboration, the creativity, the breakthrough moments, the laughter, the intensity! At its most fundamental level the subject explores what it means to be human, so it will never cease to be relevant.

What do you enjoy most about Stowe?

The environment here is obviously stunning, but beyond that there is a sense of purpose and shared endeavour in so much of what happens here.

What is your favourite Lesson?

I try not to have favourites – though it is always exciting when a group reaches the point where it develops the confidence to fail, because that is often where the most exciting ideas emerge. Laughter is often a good ingredient, but drama is so full of engaging elements – tension, surprise, contrast, character, conflict – that you come to expect the unexpected. Like any teacher, I take as much satisfaction from the successful journey as from individual points along the way.

What do others say about you?

He smiles a lot. People have also said I am kind and a good listener.

Passions

I love storytelling in all its forms, both creatively and as an audience member. I enjoy travel and adventure, history, and culture, exploring either from an armchair or booted and with a pack on my back. My long-suffering family are my inspiration and I am certainly passionate about them.
