Life before Stowe

Before coming to Stowe, I taught Music at a state boys’ school for four years, and prior to that I completed my Initial Teacher Training in two schools in Hertfordshire. I completed a fully-funded PhD ten years ago on the topic of domestic music-making in late-eighteenth-century England with the University of Southampton and The National Trust.

After my PhD I worked in The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, as a visiting researcher examining school girl samplers from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Taking a break from academic research, I worked as an administrator for a multinational Japanese company who specialise in electronics and electrical equipment for five years and taught the flute privately.

What do you enjoy most about your subject?

You never stop learning something new!

What do you enjoy most about Stowe?

Working with an amazing team, teaching great pupils and having access to the most stunning surroundings.

What is your favourite Lesson?

I particularly enjoy teaching set works for A level and thinking of ways to make the vast and varied topic content enjoyable and informative for students.

What do others say about you?

Hard to say- good things, I hope! I imagine they’d say that I am very organised, a good listener and a good friend.
