Life before Stowe

When I finished my degree in English Literature, I completed a PGCE in English and Drama, and later completed a master’s degree in Victorian Studies at Birkbeck College, University of London. I have been teaching English for over twenty-seven years. For the past ten years I was Head of the English Faculty at Abbot’s Hill School in Hertfordshire. Prior to this post, I worked as an English Teacher at St. George’s School, Harpenden and Hitchin Boys’ School.

What do you enjoy most about your subject?

I teach English because I am passionate about English Literature and love the power it has to improve our lives, every day. When you know you have helped a pupil in several ways, life is not only good but amazing. There aren’t many careers where you have the opportunity to work directly with children while trying to make their today a little smarter and their tomorrow a little brighter.

What do you enjoy most about Stowe?

The stoics are friendly and engaged. Colleagues at Stowe are kind and relentlessly professional. The incredible views are a perk too!

What is your favourite Lesson?

Any lesson teaching Shakespeare is an absolute joy and privilege.

What do others say about you?

Dedicated. Loves the classroom. Obsessed with literary festivals.

Other hats

Wife to Richard, as well as mum to Beatrice and Isabella.

Passions

When I'm not keeping busy teaching, you can find me at a book festival, hiking with my family, or doing yoga!
