Life before Stowe

I was Head of English for twenty years at Princethorpe College near Rugby. Before that I was Head of English for many years at Cardinal Newman RC High School in Luton.

What do you enjoy most about your subject?

I enjoy the way it is a subject that pupils will be actively using every day of their lives. They will carry with them skills they are developing in English lessons into all aspects of their future lives, so it is very much a life-enhancing subject.

What do you enjoy most about Stowe?

The environment is sublime; it really feels like a slice of heaven.

What is your favourite Lesson?

Anything Literature-related. I really enjoy seeing pupils fully engaged with a text and unlocking its meaning.

What do others say about you?

I would like to think the pupils would view me as someone who knows what he is doing and who genuinely has their interests at heart.

Other hats

My commitments at Stowe do not extend beyond the classroom at present but I am looking forward to making a fuller contribution to the school.

Passions

I am fired up by anything related to Literature, including the theatre. I write a little myself and keep up to date with contemporary fiction. I have a beautiful garden which I love maintaining and developing. I spend time regularly looking after small grandchildren who bring a real joy to life
