Life before Stowe

I studied Geography at Oxford University before embarking on my teaching career, during which I first taught at the Oxford Academy and then Magdalen College School, Oxford for six years. After the birth of my daughter, I wanted a position closer to home, and leapt at the chance to join my husband, who teaches here at Stowe.

What do you enjoy most about your subject?

Geography is so fascinating because it truly is all around you. No matter where in the world you go, from the most mundane street corner to the highest mountain peak, Geography helps you to understand what you are seeing. I also love that there is rarely a ‘right’ answer, which means plenty of opportunities for debate and discussion. By teaching pupils Geography, I believe that I am helping them to become better citizens, who are going to be able to enact real and meaningful change in the world.

What do you enjoy most about Stowe?

My favourite part of Stowe is how friendly everyone is; it makes a huge difference when people smile and say hello, and I was made to feel welcome from the very first moment I arrived. It is also great to be able to get stuck into the huge variety of activities and co-curricular opportunities on offer.

What is your favourite Lesson?

I have always been determinedly ‘stuck in the middle’ of Geography - I am much too indecisive to choose a favourite from physical or human!

What do others say about you?

Probably that I talk too much; any excuse to get away from my computer! I hope they would also say that I am enthusiastic, organised, and that I work hard to do the best I can for my pupils.

Other hats

I am a Sixth Form Tutor in Lyttelton House, and support the running of the DofE scheme at Stowe.

Passions

I love being outdoors, Summer mountaineering in particular. I have always enjoyed running and staying active, including running the London Marathon in 2017. Sadly, training has taken a back seat since becoming a parent, but I am looking forward to being able to use the stunning grounds of Stowe as a backdrop for future sessions.
