Choosing the right school for your child is clearly a very important decision, with many factors to take into consideration: what the school is able to offer your child and will your child be happy at the school enabling them to reach their full potential - just two of many key issues. We have given a range of information here on our website and in our school literature which we hope will help you in your decision making process.
Admissions procedure at Stowe
Pupils (both boys and girls) generally enter Stowe at aged 13 (into our Third Form - Year 9) or at 16 (into our Lower Sixth Form - Year 12). Sometimes places may become available in other year groups - the Admissions Office will be able to advise on their availability.
A prospectus can be requested by contacting the Admissions Office directly or completing the enquiry form.
Your child can be registered with Stowe at any time. A Registration Form is included with our Prospectus. This enables us to keep in regular contact with you regarding developments at the School, the availability of places and advise you of the next steps to consider at the appropriate time. It is advisable to register at least 3 years prior to entry.
Our website, School Prospectus and hearsay provide only part of the picture, there is no alternative to coming to see Stowe for yourself, to sample the atmosphere and, most of all, to meet the people. You are therefore warmly invited to Stowe. You may initially prefer a more formal group introduction by attending one of our Open Mornings when you will have the opportunity to meet a wide range of our academic staff - these events are popular so please do book well in advance.
In order to be considered for a place at Stowe, an individual visit is required. This visit can be arranged by our Admissions team. The visit will include an individual school tour, with a current pupil as your guide; an interview with the Registrar and/or the Headmaster; a House tour and a meeting with a Housemaster or Housemistress. We currently recommend that individual visits take place about two years from entry.
Either before or after your individual visit we will seek permission from you to request a report from your child's current school. Once the visit has taken place, and we have received the report we are then in a position to decide whether to make the offer of a place, by sending an Offer Letter and Acceptance of Place Form to successful candidates.
Acceptance of a Place
Completion of the Acceptance of Place Form and a deposit payment will ensure a place is reserved for your child at Stowe, subject to the relevant entry qualifications being met. You may also express a preference in your choice of Boarding House. The deposit is refundable after your child has left the School.
Entry to Stowe at 13+ is conditional on your child passing either Common Entrance with an average of 55% across all subjects with a minimum of 50% at level 2 in the core subjects of Maths, English and Science, or our own Stowe Entry Papers. We will also require a reference from your child's present school. Sixth Form entrants need to achieve a minimum of six GCSE passes at grade B.
Scholarships, up to a maximum of one quarter of the appropriate fees, are awarded through competitive entry held in the year prior to entry at 13+ and Sixth Form level. Bursaries may further supplement scholarships and are awarded after financial assessment. A limited number of Buckingham Day Bursaries are also available.
Further details of the scholarships and bursaries available are given here.
Our team in the Admissions Office will be pleased to assist you in any way and at any stage in your considerations to find the right school for your child.
