Anthony Ashfield, Houseparent

I have worked across a number of schools (Midlands, Cornwall, Devon, Cumbria and now here at Stowe) as a Head of Department (Economics and Business) and as a Houseparent. Prior to this I worked in Banking. I live on site with my wife, our children and our chocolate Labrador.

Ethos of the House

We strive to create a real home from home for the boys to grow, learn and develop into happy, civilised young men. There is a real sense of family and strong friendships are forged early on through living in the Junior dormitories building a strong sense of belonging from the start of their time at Stowe. The team mentality is a great strength in Chandos and as a result the House celebrates regular achievements and has built an enviable reputation on and off the sports field. Please come and visit, see the House, meet some Chandosians and judge for yourselves.

History of the House

As one of the four original boarding houses at Stowe, Chandos has a central and unique setting, occupying the east wing of the Mansion. The boys socialise in Paris (the name for the Common Room) and Third Formers share a dorm in one of the State Rooms that was once slept in by Queen Victoria!

Head of House

“We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools”.
