Winchester House School Nursery and Pre-Prep "achieves very high standards in all facets of school life, providing an abundance of educational opportunities” (ISI March 2013).
The solid foundations for learning provide many opportunities for children to discover new interests and develop a range of talents, sowing the seeds for long standing and flourishing friendships.
Our Pre-Prep Department (3-7 year olds) comprises of Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. We are situated in a delightful self-contained building including a purpose built Nursery, Five classrooms, library, break out spaces and an outdoor classroom, all of which are surrounded by large playing fields. Our exciting playground and Early Years garden offer a range of physical and creative experiences designed to exercise growing minds and bodies and allow the children to build confidence and enjoy fresh air and fun.
Winchester House’s famed sense of community runs through Pre-Prep, and we work hard to foster a warm, family atmosphere, where everyone feels valued. Small class sizes allow teachers to build long lasting, nurturing relationships with children and their families, and our friendly and flexible approach encourages children and parents to feel comfortable and able to talk to staff about anything at any time. 'Come & Share' sessions, coffee mornings and parent workshops are regular features and strengthen the school-family partnership.
Children study a broad and innovative creative curriculum that encourages active learning both in our bright and stimulating classrooms and outdoors in the school grounds. In addition to traditional class teaching the children enjoy specialist input for Music, PE, ICT, French and Learning Development. Swimming lessons are introduced in Year 1 and children enjoy the fun of our own open air pool during the summer months.
Our broad and balanced curriculum provides rich learning opportunities for all children, with an emphasis on exploration, enquiry, creativity, imagination and independence.
Children across Pre-Prep are immersed in the topics, with additional educational visits, workshops and visiting speakers deepening the ‘hands on’, practical approach to learning and helping to open up the ‘Big Curriculum’. Children can also take part in a varied and exciting programme of after school clubs.
Our experienced team uses a wide variety of teaching styles to help children discover their area of talent, build self-confidence and achieve their potential. Participation in assemblies, plays, sports day, musical and creative events allow all children the opportunity to grow and shine.
Throughout their time in Pre-Prep, children are supported and nurtured to make the most of opportunities, and the celebration of their achievements is a key part of our approach. Regular assemblies celebrate individual and group achievements in addition to looking at moral and religious aspects of life. Weekly Personal, Social and Health Environment lessons (PSHE) and circle time activities help children build confidence with social skills and encourage them to acknowledge each other’s success.
