Old Stoics with a keen interest and appreciation for wine are warmly invited to attend the next OS Corkscrew Wine Tasting, on Wednesday 28 February 2018, from 7.00pm onwards.  Hugo McMullen and Ruairi O’Hara from Goedhuis & Co will lead a portfolio tasting of the great French classics: White Burgundy and Bordeaux.

The tasting will feature 15 different wines which guests will be able to taste at their leisure, whilst discussing the merits of each wine with the experts.

Tickets are £25 per person, to include wine, crisps and nibbles. Non Old Stoic friends and guests are welcome to attend, as always.

Goedhuis & Co
Goedhuis & Co is an engaging team of specialist fine wine merchants providing fellow wine lovers with an inspiring personal service that is a better way to buy and enjoy wine from Burgundy, Bordeaux and the rest of the world.

Goedhuis & Co was founded by chairman Johnny Goedhuis in 1981. Their head office is in Central London with a separate storage business, Private Reserves Ltd., based in Northamptonshire. In 2008 Goedhuis & Co. opened its first international office in Hong Kong to service the growing interest in fine wine from the Asian market. Clients are a mix of private individuals and organisations as diverse as university colleges, restaurants and catering companies.

They are committed to discovering and promoting unheralded producers from all around the world as well as working with the most famous established estates’ First Growth Clarets and Grand Cru Burgundies. This approach ensures continual sourcing of the very best wines from the very best vintages, and constant development of the range of everyday wines which offer both exceptionally delicious drinking and value that rivals the High Street.

Hugo McMullen
The drinks trade has always been in my blood; on my father’s side my great, great, great, great grandfather established McMullen’s Brewery in Hertfordshire in 1827, and on my mother’s side, my great grandfather founded The Glenlivet whisky distillery on Speyside.
I joined the Goedhuis team in 2010, shortly after working in the vineyards of Chateau Bauduc, owned by the ever-enthusiastic Gavin Quinney. My present role includes advising clients from the UK and abroad on how to create and manage perfect cellars for both drinking and investment.

At Goedhuis we love Burgundy but I specialise in the great wines of Bordeaux and particularly enjoy visiting the region. I adore mature Pauillac and the best Pomerols; at the moment I have a passion for 2005 La Conseillante… but that may change next year! I also have an ever-increasing interest in the wines of Burgundy; favourite growers include Marc Colin, Comte Armand, Simon Bize, Hudelot Noellat & Armand Rousseau. My most memorable wine moment has to be sharing a bottle of 1963 Dow’s with my brother, a sensational drop!

Outside of wine, I love travelling and enjoy sport, especially football (Tottenham Hotspur). Married to Emily, my expert sommelier, and joint owner of a miniature Dachshund called Doodle (that is also for sale...)!
