Cheltenham Festival Preview

About the event

All Old Stoics, Parents and Friends of Stowe with a keen interest in Horse Racing are warmly invited to attend our first Cheltenham Festival Preview on Thursday 27 February 2020, from 6.30pm onwards in the Music Room at Stowe.

Guests have the chance to hear from jockeys and trainers connected to some of the leading runners as well as hearing from our current trainers in the Old Stoic Racing Club; Alex Hales (Chandos 92) and Jonathan Portman (Chatham 83). The evening will be hosted by Sky Sports Racing Presenter Robert Cooper (Cobham 68). 

Our panel include:

Harry Bannister – Harry has ridden at all the top festivals with big race winners including Bigmartre and La Bague Au Roi. He is one of the jockeys for our Racing Club and regularly rides in races for Alex Hales.

Nico de Boinville – is top jockey to multi champion trainer, Nicky Henderson. Nico will have an excellent book of rides at this season’s Festival including the reigning Champion Chaser Altior who is aiming for a fifth straight Festival win.

Alex Hales – Alex has sent out over 200 winners and is responsible for training Bourbon Beauty, the national hunt horse in our Old Stoic Racing Club.

Emma Lavelle – is having an excellent season having secured victories in the Ladbrokes Trophy with De Rasher Counter and capturing the hearts of the country with the fairy tale win in the Stayers Hurdle for Paisley Park. Paisley Park is aiming for a repeat success this year.

Jonathan Portman – our latest recruit to the training ranks of our Racing Club and what a 2019 we had with our flat horse Mild Illusion. Three wins from eight races including the Listed ‘Bosra Sham’ at Newmarket.

The evening will begin with drinks in the Marble Hall, followed by a talk in the Music Room.
