Humphrey Ocean studied at Canterbury College of Art from 1970 to 1973. During that time, he played bass with Kilburn and the Highroads supporting The Who on their 1973 Christmas Tour. He was elected a Royal Academician in 2004 and since 2012 has been Royal Academy Professor of Perspective. He has had shows at Tate Liverpool and Whitechapel Gallery, London and his residency at Dulwich Picture Gallery, London resulted in how’s my driving in 2003. His series of new portraits A handbook of modern life was shown in 2013 at the National Portrait Gallery and 2018 began with his exhibition of sculpture and works on paper I’ve No Idea Either at Sims Reed Gallery, London, His latest exhibition Birds, Cars and Chairs will be at The Keeper’s House, Royal Academy of Arts, 7 December 2018 - 7 April 2019. Later in 2019 the first monograph on his work will be published.
