About the event
Venue: Watson School of Art
Exhibition: 11 October - 15 November (Viewings by Appointment)
The Curwen Print Study Centre was established as an educational Fine Art Printmaking charity in the late 1990s by Master Printer Stanley Jones MBE and the late Sam Alper OBE. Since its formation, the Curwen Print Study Centre has established a reputation for excellence in its field. The aim of The Study Centre is to preserve and develop the essential experience and skills that underpin the concept of the artist’s original hand
pulled print. Curwen owns an Archive of Prints produced in The Curwen Studio under
the direction of Stanley Jones MBE by artists including Henry Moore, John Piper, Elizabeth Frink RA, Paula Rego RA, Paul Hogarth RA, David Gentleman, John Bellany RA, Eduardo Paolozzi RA, Josef Herman RA, Bernard Dunstan RA plus many others.
The Archive also has a collection of papers relating to the process and communication between the artist and studio which gives an insight into the artists themselves. Curwen
would like to have space to enable this Archive to be on display and accessible to view. The early part of this Archive was gifted to the Tate as it is considered to be of National interest.
Arts at Stowe is delighted to have the opportunity to exhibit a small part of this collection and host a demonstration of some of the printing techniques offered by the Curwen Print Study centre for those new to printing and for experienced print makers looking for a masterclass experience.
