Welcome to 2017 with the OSGS
3 January 2017
Happy New Year to you all and we look forward to you participating in the growing range of OSGS events that are open to Old Stoic golfers of all standards.
In addition to these regular email updates the Old Stoics Golfing Society Facebook page will be used even further in 2017 to get more Old Stoics involved.
2017 Fixture List:
Click here for the fixture list for 2017. There are new fixtures including an extra match against The School at Sunningdale (26 Feb) and a 60 Birkdale Bucket Anniversary Event at Ilkley (9 June). The fixture list is also featured on the OSGS section of the Old Stoic website.
Don’t wait to be asked to play in any match, meeting or team event – just contact the match, meeting or team manager listed on the fixture list and if any queries just contact me.
I have highlighted the February/March fixtures below:
Match v The School at Sunningdale: Sunday 26 February
A team of six will play against the School at Sunningdale as a joint Halford Hewitt/Micklem Trophy warm up. Team to meet for snack lunch at 11.30am and tee off from 12.28pm.
Contact Haydn Brooks at haydnbrooks@googlemail.com
Match v The School at Woking: Tuesday 7 March
A team of six will play against the School on the practice day before the Micklem Trophy. Woking is a good early season course and we are teeing off from 11.10am with refreshments afterwards. Contact me, Peter Simmons pjgsimmons@gmail.com or 07957 141826 if you are interested - recent leavers particularly welcome.
Northern Meeting at Formby: 10 & 11 March
A great meeting to kick the year off. We play both the Formby and the Formby Ladies courses with an overnight stay in the Dormy House. There are singles competitions both days with the David Hadfield Salver the prize on the Friday. This is a great value, sociable meeting for golfers of all standard with a 50% discount on the golf costs for those under 30. Contact the Meeting Manager, James Gartside jamesgartside@macdonaldandtaylor.com Tel: 078312 73991 if you want to play.
Birkdale Bucket at Woodhall Spa: 18 & 19 March
The Birkdale Bucket, for which 8 Northern schools compete, provides an opportunity to play a great course. We need a minimum of four players and the more we have of all handicap levels the better our chances. Details of this meeting are attached including the entry form. As with other team events the Society will fund the green fee cost for the two rounds (£90). If you want to play complete the entry form and send it to Charles Webb – also tell me you have entered so I can arrange to refund you the golf cost at the event.
First Team Captain: Haydn Brooks
Haydn Brooks has started to plan for the Halford Hewitt in April with practice sessions/matches scheduled for February and March. The Halford Hewitt draw takes place next Wednesday (11th January) at the East India Club. If you want to be considered for the Halford Hewitt and Grafton Morrish teams contact Haydn at haydnbrooks@googlemail.com
