Topper Thornton at Sandown

3 December 2017

We are excited to announce that Stowe’s first racehorse will be on ITV Racing this coming Saturday.
Topper Thornton, owned by the Old Stoic Racing Club for the season, has already finished second in a £15,000 race at Carlisle and will now aim to go one better in the £50,000 London National at Sandown this Saturday, which will be shown live on ITV Racing.
Old Stoic trainer, Alex Hales (Chandos 92), reveals ‘Topper’ to “be in excellent form since Carlisle. He has a good five-week break and we now head to Sandown. The course and trip (of 3miles 4 furlongs) will be to his liking and I confident that he can be competitive. Having a runner at a big meeting on a Saturday is what all owners and trainers want and I’m thrilled that this is possible for school’s Racing Club on only their second race!”
The intention is to secure the services of jockey, and former pupil. Harry Bannister (Chatham 12) for the ride. Harry is in excellent form this season having notched up 28 winners and, perhaps more impressively, nine winners from his last nineteen rides.
The Racing Club is the brainchild of Luke Brewin (Temple 02) and Henry Kimbell (Chandos 04) – both keen racegoers. Henry explains how they have been tempting interests of the Stowe community,
Shares have been selling well and we are delighted to have a mixture of leaving years represented – from 1953 to 2012 - many of whom are becoming involved in ownership for the first time.
The Club is open is to anyone connected to Stowe and we feel we have made it affordable whilst ensuring lots of fun is had along the way including breakfast visits to Alex’s yard, box hospitality at the races and pub lunches during the season. In addition the intention is to raise upwards of £5,000 for the Stowe School Foundation to help fund a scholarship and/or bursary to support the next generation of Stoics’’
You could be an owner at Sandown this Saturday. Why? Because there are just two shares remaining which will be available until this Friday lunchtime - the perfect Christmas present
