Stowe School Boys-U18A vs Millfield School
Wednesday 11 October 2017
Stowe 19 Millfield 12

Both sides admitted to not being at their best before the game but it turned out to be a thrilling encounter.
Stowe started hesitantly and when Ben Spiess pulled his first penalty to the left of the posts, a poor kick chase from Stowe allowed an adventurous break from Millfields own deadball line see their winger cross in the corner with the kick converted the writing was on the wall. Stowe refused to buckle and another penalty after some excellent pressure saw them reduce the deficit to 4 points. Buoyed by their ability to retain the ball and build passes Stowe converted another penalty by Ben Spiess just before half time. Turning into a strong wind and a point down stowe restarted where they left off and some terrific ball retention gave them another penalty from 40 meters out. A big ask but Spiess delivered and put the home side ahead. Millfield chasing the game spilt the ball in midfield and Adam Williamson sped the 40 meters to score under the posts. A further penalty from some distance into the wind by Spiess gave Stowe a 19-7 cushion and although Millfield scored a late unconverted try Stowe held their nerve to record a tremendous win over their illustrious opponents.
