Results Day 2023
17 August 2023
This Summer pupils at Stowe School are enjoying a strong set of A Level results, in spite of the disruption caused by the pandemic after schools were closed in March 2020.
Many individual pupils have achieved very strong results and have met or exceeded their predictions. 24 pupils achieved at least three A grades, with one student achieving four A*s and another three A*s. Five more notched up two A*s and all A grades and a further twelve pupils achieved A*AAA or A*AA. Stowe offers four BTEC options for Engineering, Creative Digital Media, Business and Sport and results in these have also been strong, with most grades awarded being at Distinction or starred Distinction level.
Several departments have helped their pupils to achieve impressive results. The Arts and Languages remain strengths at Stowe, with Art, Music, Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian results all seeing 100% of pupils achieving grades A*-B. Other departments that saw their pupils achieve 70% or more of the grades at A*-B are Chemistry, Further Maths, History, Design & Technology, and Philosophy & Religion, and an impressive 24% of all Politics grades awarded were at A*.
University destinations are now being confirmed, but early signs indicate that the majority of Stoics have been accepted into their first choice universities. Stowe has a special relationship with Harvard and sponsors a Harvard Graduate Fellow every year to join our staff and help prepare applicants for US universities. We are very pleased to be sending an undergraduate this year to study Engineering at Harvard. Pupil destinations in the UK include Cambridge, Durham, LSE, KCL, QMUL, Edinburgh, Exeter, Bristol, Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, Sheffield, Bath, Liverpool and Newcastle, among others.
This year group of pupils received Teacher Assessed Grades at GCSE and they deserve enormous credit for the commitment and perseverance they have shown over the past few years. The fact that this was their first real set of external exams makes their achievements even more commendable. Thanks must go to Stowe staff who have supported these pupils throughout their time at the School, and for their dedication to their pupils.
