Results Day

10 August 2021

The 2021 Stowe leavers have triumphed over adversity, delivering the school’s best ever set of A Level results after facing the challenges of two years of blended classroom and online learning, for some further disrupted by illness, distance or family circumstances. 17 pupils achieved a full set of three A* grades or more, and a total 86 pupils scored all A or A*. 60% of all grades awarded were at A*/A and 87% were awarded at A*/B. 91% of pupils have been accepted by their first-choice universities, including four to Oxford (to study English, Fine Art, Ancient & Modern History and Medicine) and one to Cambridge (Medicine). There were particularly strong results in Art, History of Art, Spanish, Economics, English Literature, Film Studies and Further Mathematics, with over 70% of all grades awarded at A*/A. BTEC results were equally impressive, with 69% of grades achieving a Distinction* (equivalent to an A* at A Level) and 85% of grades at Distinction level or higher (the equivalent of A*/A).

We are extremely proud of what these pupils have achieved. When faced with the challenges posed by the pandemic, they showed dedication, initiative and resilience. The systems for assessment were robust, including a hefty series of unseen timed assessments in May and June, and the high grades achieved are a testament to their hard work and commitment in these unusual times.

Our teachers should also be commended for their hard work, commitment and support of the pupils throughout these last two years and for their part in helping the Stoics to achieve these wonderful results.
