Remembering Tristan

2 July 2018

We are proud to announce that this year's OS Christmas Carol Concert will remember the life and work of Tristan Voorspuy (Former Parent). Tristan sadly lost his life on 5 March 2017, after he rode his horse into an ambush on Sosian, a 24,000 acre ranch he co-owned in Kenya's Laikipia region, that was occupied by armed warriors and their cattle. His family have set up the Tristan Voorspuy Conservation Trust cherish the memory of Tristan and continue his philanthropic legacy towards protecting Kenya’s wildlife, both flora and fauna, for the future.

Tristan was perhaps best known for guiding his riding safaris as an adventurer. Yet he was also a passionate agriculturalist, naturalist and conservationist. It was in conservation that he channelled endless energy, including the formation of a consortium to buy Sosian Ranch in 1999 and subsequently to rescue it from desertification. With financial input, good management, dedication and patience, he and the other owners restored it back to natural health, adding 24,000 acres of sustainable land to the animal haven that Laikipia is famous for, whilst also providing long-term employment and education to local communities through effective tourism, cattle ranching, and wildlife/habitat care.

The Tristan Voorspuy Conservation Trust has been set up in order to raise funds in his name to continue his philanthropic legacy and dedication to Kenya’s last remaining natural habitat.

All Old Stoics, Stowe Parents and Friends of Stowe are warmly invited to attend this year's OS Christmas Carol Concert, at Chelsea Old Church, on Monday 3 December 2018, from 7.00pm onwards. After the concert, mulled wine and mince pies will be served in Petyt Hall.

At the end of the concert, a collection will be taken for the Tristan Voorspuy Conservation Trust.
