12 July 2017

We were fortunate to choose one of the hottest days of the year for our first Old Stoic Polo Match, held at Kirtlington Park Polo Club, on Saturday 8 July. Happily, there was plenty of shade for our guests as they enjoyed the marvellous surroundings and watched a gripping Old Stoic v Old Stoic match.

We were delighted to welcome over 140 guests for the occasion, which began with pimms on the lawns, followed by a delicious lunch kindly sponsored by Fairfax & Favor and supplied by Oxford Fine Dining.

The polo kicked off at 3pm, with each of the players being introduced by our commentator, Ralph Grayson (Current Parent). The teams, kindly organised by David Ashby (Chatham 03), were very fairly matched and made up of the players listed below:

Team A (White)
Mr Max Kirchhoff (Grafton 05)  0
Mr Sam Tylor (Chatham 98) 1
Mr Jack Berner (Chatham 09) 3
Mr Nicholas Britten-Long (Chandos 95) 2
Total Handicap = 6

Team B (Blue)
Mr Jack Mann (Temple 00)  2
Mr Jamie Peel (Grafton 00) 2
Mr David Ashby (Chatham 03) 3
Mr Hector Worsley (Chatham 12) 1
Total Handicap = 7

The Blue team were issued with a handicap and, after fantastic play, the white team took the trophy with a score of 4 ½ to 4.

After the match, each of the players received a small gift as a token of thanks and the pimms flowed late into the afternoon.

We are hoping to make the match an annual fixture and would to include a Stowe v Old Stoic match as part of the line-up, as well as challenging other alumni teams to a game.

A short film was produced by William Berner (Chatham 11) owner of Ablinq, to capture the spirit of the day, please click here to view.
