OSGS October Update
4 October 2017
Here is the latest OSGS update with recent match results, urgent call for someone to complete the Dick Watson Trophy team and a final call for entries to the Autumn Meeting at Brancaster.
Match v The School at Stowe,16 Sept: Lost 1-3
Our first match against the new golf team that included Stowe's first Golf Scholar, Max Faulkner. Despite a slightly early finish due to thunder and lightning the School were clear winners with only the President and Secretary securing a win. However we were delighted to welcome Patrick Cooper back after a long break and Olly Clarke (2017 leaver) to his debut for the OSGS.
Match v The School at Stoke Park, 4 Oct: Lost 0-3
Despite fielding a younger, lower handicap OSGS team that included Matt Bazeley flying in from Dubai, Captain Nick Luddington, William Waddell-Dudley, John Rowe, Hugo Douglass and Roddy Blackburne The School won again. Their standard of play is rising fast and with 16 fixtures this term alone they have plenty of opportunity to get even better.
Dick Watson Trophy at Aldeburgh, 14/15 Oct: EXTRA PLAYER NEEDED URGENTLY
Below is a message from Jeremy Scowsill who manages the team for this fixture:
I run a team of 4 that represents the Old Stoics in an inter- school competition at Aldeburgh GC held on the 14th and 15th of October ( weekend after next) and have unfortunately received a late call off.
Please consider playing in this excellent team event.
It is a really good weekend, with accommodation at my place (travelling up on Friday) with the other two players (William Hill and Nigel Wright). It is two rounds of foursomes on Saturday and one on Sunday with 15 schools competing and a dinner on Saturday at the Club. The cost is very modest as the OSGS pays the entry fee!
We came 5th last year and are looking to do better!

AUTUMN MEETING AT BRANCASTER: 21 & 22 October FINAL CALL FOR ENTRIES
A superb meeting held at an iconic golf course. Several Old Stoics are members which allows us to keep the cost down. The weekend includes competition for the prestigious Lucas Langley foursomes Salvers as well as a singles (Scratch & Stableford) round on Saturday afternoon.
Attached is the entry form for the meeting. So far Charlie Consett, Angus Campbell, Lorne Williamson, Don Jeffreys, Nick & Chris Luddington, Neil Gray, David Ewbank, Angus Marshall-Andrew, John Luddington, Peter Comber, Adam Carling and the Secretary are entered. There are several more thinking about it with up to 4 places still available.
The AGM of the OSGS (including viewing of plans for new Stowe course) will be held on Saturday evening ahead of dinner at the Briarfields Hotel at Titchwell. Contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org or 07957 141826 if you have any questions about the weekend.
