September was a busy and successful month for the Society and the remainder of the year's fixtures are now a sell out. However preparation of the 2022 fixture list is in progress and will be circulated early in December.

For those who want to play in the Halford Hewitt this is advance notice that next year's dates are 7-10th April - lets hope availability is good - 30 years on from Stowe last reaching the Semi Finals.

Results

3rd September, Birkdale Bucket at Moortown
Amazingly Stowe beat seven other 'Northern' schools (including Oundle and Uppingham) to win the Birkdale Bucket for the first time since the competition started in 1957.
There were excellent scores from Nick Rice (35), David Sabberton (32) and Nick Luddington (30) with support from Stephen Murray and Peter Simmons at the rearranged Moortown venue. Nick Rice also won the Burrow's Tobacco Jar for best over 65 score. The win is dedicated to David Hadfield who represented Stowe on his own at many Birkdale Buckets. Hopefully this is the start of better support for a sociable team event normally held at Woodhall Spa. The dates for 2022 are 5/6th March

4th September, Match v Downside at New Zealand, 8 a side
Adam Carling, Tom Young, Ed Elliott, James MacDonald-Buchanan, William Hill, Matt Bazeley, Nigel Randall and Match Manager, Ian Bendell comprehensively beat the Old Gregorians 7-1. Great to have three 2015 leavers in the team with James MacDonald- Buchanan making his debut for the Society

9/10th Sept, Halford Hewitt at Deal, Princes, Royal St Georges
Stowe battled hard in the Halford Hewitt but lost 4.5 to 0.5 against Merchant Taylors in the first round at Princes. The match was closer than the score suggests and an excellent effort by a team including five players on debut (three 2019 leavers), two returning to the competition after over 20 years and probably Stowe's first father and son pair. The team also lost closely to Hurstpierpoint in the plate at St Georges. Many thanks for the support of our Captain, William Hill, President, Perry Hunt and his wife, Bunty. The team included Matt Bazeley, Peter Jarvis, Peter Hale, Julian Stocks, Toby Stocks (debut), Pierse Odell (debut), Hugo Douglass (debut), William Hill (debut), Greg Choyce and Freddie Horlick (debut).Thank you to David Ewbank for being on standby.
