OSGS Northern Meeting
14 March 2017
Old Stoic Northern Golf Meeting success
The Old Stoic Golfing Society had a record turn out of 20 golfers with handicaps from 1 to 24 at Formby last weekend.
It was very well organised by James Gartside, blessed with good weather and provided excellent practice for some of Haydn Brooks aspiring Halford Hewitt players.
On Friday afternoon the David Hadfield Salver was won on the main Formby course by Sean Morris with an excellent 37 points. Charles Gartside was second with 35 points just pipping brother James on 34 points.
The round was followed by an enjoyable dinner in the Formby Clubhouse, the Wales v Ireland Rugby and some very competitive snooker.
On Saturday morning the shorter but no less challenging Formby Ladies course was the venue for a new OSGS trophy (yet to be named). There were some excellent scores with Charles Consett (37 points) and Angus Campbell (39) to the fore but not able to match the three under par 68 of Haydn Brooks (42 points) which was beaten by the 43 points scored by Peter Simmons.
Many thanks to James Gartside for an excellent weekend.
