Old Stoic Golfing Society Newsletter – February 2016

It is just a month to the first fixtures of 2016 so please have a look at what is on offer and as soon as possible contact the relevant match or meeting manager whose details are below.
Please do not wait to be asked and if you have any questions contact me.

Revised 2016 Fixture List:

Please click here for the revised fixture list for 2016 which now includes a practice match for the Halford Hewitt team against Old Leysians at Rye on 7th April. There are still a few dates to confirm and further updated versions will be circulated, as well as being featured on the OSGS section of the Old Stoic website.

I have highlighted the March & April fixtures below:

Match v The School at Woking: 8th March

A team of six plays the School on the practice day before the Micklem Trophy. So far Charlie Gartside and I are down to play and a couple of others may be available so more players needed. Woking is a good early season course and we are teeing off from 12.09pm. Contact me, Peter Simmons p.j.g.simmons@herts.ac.uk or 07957 141826 if you are interested.

Northern Meeting at Formby: 11th & 12th March

James Gartside has had a good response but places are still available. We play the Formby and the Formby Ladies courses with an overnight stay in the Dormy House. There are singles competitions both days with the David Hadfield Salver the prize on the Friday - won by Charlie Consett in its first year. This is a great value, sociable meeting for golfers of all standard with a 50% discount on the golf costs for those under 30.
Contact the Meeting Manager, James Gartside jamesgartside@macdonaldandtaylor.com Tel: 078312 73991 to play.

Birkdale Bucket at Woodhall Spa: 19th & 20th March

8 Northern schools compete for the Birkdale Bucket on a fantastic early season course. We need a minimum of four players (only Don Jeffreys & Peter Simmons entered so far) and the more we have of all handicap levels the better our chance of not ‘winning’ the Wooden Spoon as we did in 2015. Details of this meeting are attached.
As with other team events it has been decided that the green fee cost for the two rounds (£80) will be funded by the OSGS. If you want to play complete the attached entry form and send it to Charles Webb – also tell me you have entered so I can arrange to refund you the golf cost at the event.

Halford Hewitt – 8th April at St Georges

We have drawn Whitgift at 8.20pm at St Georges on 8th April. To take advantage of the extra days practice a match against Old Leysians has been arranged at Rye on Thursday 7th April. Captain Haydn Brooks is planning his team with trials and practice sessions scheduled for March. haydnbrooks@googlemail.com

Spring Meeting at Woking 30th April

The Spring Meeting is a few weeks earlier this year so make sure you have it in your diary. It includes rounds of foursomes and singles and Nick Luddington is the awesome Meeting Manager. If you want to play email Nick at dee.parkers@btconnect.com
The Boodles Dinner on Friday 29th April is the perfect warm up to the Spring Meeting. Like the Spring Meeting more information will be sent early in March but if you have any queries in the meantime contact Angus Campbell at ajmcampbell@gmail.com

We have set up an Old Stoics Golfing Society Facebook page – please ‘like and share’. We will also use WhatsApp to push specific fixtures.

I welcome hearing from anyone with suggestions on how we can make the Society more successful and please pass on any additional email addresses of Old Stoics who you think would be interested in receiving details on the OSGS.
