Match v The School at Sunningdale: Sunday 26 February
Haydn Brooks, Peter Hale, Sean Morris, Charles Dimpfl, Stephen Wilcox and Ian Bendell managed a 3-0 win in 4 ball better ball matches . However a useful warm up for the School ahead of the Micklem and they have the chance of revenge next Tuesday.
Match v The School at Woking: Tuesday 7 March
The OSGS line up for the Micklem practice day match is Peter Hale, Chris Luddington, Nick Luddington, John Rowe, Peter Comber and Peter Simmons. I forecast the result will be closer than at Sunningdale.
Northern Meeting at Formby: 10- 2 March
Meeting Manager, James Gartside firstname.lastname@example.org Tel: 078312 73991 has a record entry for the meeting including himself, brother Charles Gartside, Ian Bendell, Angus Marshall Andrew (welcome back), Mark Jenkyn Jones, Stephen Murray, John Naylor, Peter Simmons, David Johnstone, Giles Ruddock, Chris Hutber, Justin Philips, Huw Thomas, Sean Morris, Hadyn Brooks, Hugo Douglass, Charles Consett, Peter Comber and OSGS Captain, Nick Luddington. Great to see half a Halford Hewitt team and some new faces.
James reckons he can fit a few more players in from Friday afternoon through to Sunday (you do not have to play every day). Contact James as soon as possible though to make his job easier. The schedule is:
Friday 10: Soup and sandwiches served from 11.30 am, with tee times from 12.30 pm.
This year with growing numbers Dinner is in the Club Dinning room with some suitable Formby Entertainment ! It is likely that some Northern Old Stoics who don’t play golf will join us for Dinner.
Accommodation in the Dormy House
Saturday 11: Tee times on the ladies course are booked from 9.30am followed by sandwiches and soup.
Further golf is planned for the afternoon and Sunday for those with stamina.
Birkdale Bucket at Woodhall Spa: 18 & 19 March
The Birkdale Bucket, for which 8 Northern schools compete, provides an opportunity to play one of the great English courses. Ideally we need four players of any handicap - so far I am the only entry. Details of this meeting are attached including the entry form. As with other team events the Society funds the green fee cost for the two rounds (£90). If you want to play complete the entry form and send it to Charles Webb – also tell me you have entered so I can arrange to refund you the golf cost at the event.
Halford Hewitt Thursday 6 April
The Old Stoics play Aldenham in the first round and tee off at 8.20am at St Georges on Thursday 6 April.
Haydn Brooks is recruiting his team which will be staying at the Lodge at Princes. There is likely to be at least one spare bed for a supporter that does not want a very early start on Thursday - contact email@example.com if you are interested.
Spring Meeting at Woking: Saturday 29 April
Our Captain, Nick Luddington firstname.lastname@example.org manages this meeting and already has a good level of entry. If you want to play foursomes in the morning and singles in the afternoon with an excellent lunch in between contact Nick as soon as possible.
The Boodles Dinner: Friday 28 April
This is a fun evening where both gentlemen and lady OS golfers are welcome with superb food, wine, company and the ideal warm up for the Spring Meeting at Woking. The total cost in the past has not exceeded £90 per head. Contact Angus Campbell email@example.com or 07881 625098 as soon as possible if you would like to attend or want further information. Remember there is a strict dress code of suit and tie at the Club (equivalent attire for ladies).
Match v Old Canfordians at Sunningdale: Sunday 30 April
Cyril Gray Captain and Match Manager, Stewart McNair, uses this fixture to look at players for the Cyril Gray team. There are a couple of places available for the Canford match so if you are over 50 and play off a good single figure handicap contact Stewart at firstname.lastname@example.org or 07703 228257.
I welcome hearing from anyone with suggestions on how to make the Society more successful and contact details for prospective members.
