OSGS February Newsletter

3 February 2018

Golf1

It is less than 4 weeks to our first fixture of the year and there are lots of opportunities to play for the Old Stoics in the next few months. Our Society is for players of all handicaps, male and female, and if you have any queries about fixtures do not hesitate to contact me.

Remember all under 30s receive a 50% discount on the green fee costs.

4 March: Match v The School at Sunningdale
Haydn still has places available for this pre Micklem warm up for the School team (Haydn, Peter Hale and Ralph Rogge in the team so far). Peter Comber has organised a great green fee and lunch deal for the match so contact Haydn Brooks haydnbrooks@gmail.com as soon as possible if you want to play.

9-10 March: Northern Meeting & Old Stoic Dinner at Formby
A fantastic value meeting with singles Stableford competitions on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning with accommodation in the Dormy House.
James Gartside jamesgartside@macdonaldandtaylor.com manages the meeting and is looking to surpass the 22 attendance of 2017 and already has entries from golfers of all standards.

We have liaised with the Old Stoic Society to invite non golfing Northern Old Stoics to the Friday night dinner at Formby Golf Club - so please pass on this link to the Stowe website https://www.stowe.co.uk/whats-on/old-stoic-events/dinner-at-formby-golf-club to any Old Stoics you know in the North West

This cooperation will increase Old Stoic awareness of the OSGS - and reduce the wine bill!

13 March: Match v The School at Woking
Practice match against the School team the day before the Micklem Trophy. Brunch from 11am with tee off from 12pm.
I am organising the team for this match pjgsimmons@gmail.com - One more place available to join our Captain, Nick Luddington, Richard Wood, Josh Wheeler, Paul McSweeney and Charles Dimpfl.

17-18 March: Birkdale Bucket Northern Schools event at Woodhall Spa
We urgently need two more entries to give Stowe a chance of avoiding the wooden spoon yet again in 2018 and with the best four scores to count the more the merrier. Please consider playing in this unique event on a great early season course for which the OSGS pay the green fees on Saturday and Sunday.
Full details of this event are attached together with an entry form. If you enter please inform me pjgsimmons@gmail.com

5-8 April: Halford Hewitt at St Georges & Deal
Stowe play Brighton at Deal at 3.20pm on 5th April. Team Captain, Haydn Brooks haydnbrooks@gmail.com has organised a practice day at Deal (24th Feb) and practice times on the Tuesday and Wednesday before the Thursday 1st round have been booked - the team are determined to progress.
