OSGS August Update

1 August 2017

Here is the latest OSGS update with lots scheduled for September to November including the Autumn Meeting at Brancaster.

Don't wait to be asked to play just contact the meeting or match manager - or call me if you want more information.
Match v Old Gregorians at New Zealand: 2 September
William Waddell Dudley is Match Manager for this popular fixture and still has a few vacancies. Email him on if you would like to play.
Match v The School at Stowe: 16 September
This is an extra match against the School arranged to help establish links with next year's team and will be part of the wider Old Stoic Day. Paul McSweeney, Julian Stocks, Chris Atkinson, Lorne Williamson and the Secretary are already in the team but we need at least three more players. If you would like to play email me at
Match v The School at Stoke Park: 4 October
This match is played courtesy of Chester King of Stoke Park and therefore we are particularly keen for younger Old Stoics to play. There are still 3 or 4 places available for what is usually a 2pm start with a fourball format. Contact me on if you want to play.
Dick Watson Trophy at Aldeburgh: 14/15 October
After their excellent performance in 2016 Captain Jeremy Scowsill, Ian Bendell, Nigel Wright and William Hill are looking to do even better this year.
A superb meeting held at an iconic golf course. Several Old Stoics are members which allows us to keep the cost down. The weekend includes competition for the prestigious Lucas Langley foursomes Salvers as well as a singles (Scratch & Stableford) round on Saturday afternoon.

Attached is the entry form for the meeting - several people have already registered their interest but a completed form would be helpful to sort pairings and catering. The AGM of the OSGS will be held on Saturday evening ahead of the dinner at the Briarfields Hotel at Titchwell. Contact me on or 07957 141826 if you have any questions about the weekend.
Match v Old Haileyburians at Sunningdale: 5 November
Peter Comber is already recruiting a strong team to actually beat Haileybury. Last year's draw stopped a run of losses and Peter will be looking to do better in 2017. Contact Peter on if you are interested in playing.
The Stowe Putter - 50th Anniversary on 23 August - Please promote to any relevant contacts you have
The Stowe Putter is the oldest Prep School golf competition in the United Kingdom. For the Golden Anniversary of the Stowe Putter this year Bernard Gallagher OBE will be the Guest of Honour. Bernard played in eight Ryder Cups and was non-playing captain of the European Ryder Cup team in 1991, 1993 and 1995.
The competition takes place on Wednesday 23 August (practice is available on Tuesday 22 August) on the Stowe golf course. You can download the application form hereLate entries are being taken up until Wednesday 16 August 2017
Please contact me if you have any queries and I look forward to seeing you at a match or meeting in the near future.
