14 November 2019

On Thursday 14 November, the inaugural OS Military Dinner took place at the Cavalry and Guards Club, kindly hosted by Luke Chauveau (Cobham 87).  All Old Stoics currently serving in the Armed Forces or those who have served in the past were invited to attend. We were delighted that 40 Old Stoics were able to join us and hope to build on this number for our next occasion.

Our guests were welcomed with a champagne reception in the Waterloo Room, before moving through to the Pennisular Room for a delicious three course dinner. The OS Chair, Hannah Durden (Nugent 01), delivered a touching Grace themed around Remembrance which set the tone for the evening perfectly.

We were extremely honoured to welcome Admiral Sir George Zambellas (Walpole 76) as our guest speaker for the evening. He gave a poignant and engaging speech, remembering three Old Stoics killed in action during the Second World War. Harry Rees (Temple 14), the youngest Old Stoic in attendance, was invited to give The Loyal Toast.

It was a tremendous occasion, made even more enjoyable by the excellent food and service provided by the Cavalry and Guards Club. We were particularly honoured to have the Club silver displayed on our table during the evening. We intend to hold this Dinner on a biennial basis going forward, with the date published a long way in advance to allow those in the Military to coordinate leave dates where possible. If you did not receive an invitation to this Dinner and would like to be invited to the next occasion, please write to oldstoic@stowe.co.uk
