OS in Macmillan ‘Ride of their Lives’ Charity Horse Race

11 June 2022

Lucy Horan (Stanhope 14) is taking part in the Ernst Cooper Macmillan ‘Ride of their Lives’ charity horse race at York Races on Saturday 11 June 22.

Lucy writes, "I have been fortunate enough to be given an opportunity to be one of 12 dedicated amateur jockeys selected to ride in the 2022 Ernst Cooper Macmillan ‘Ride of their Lives’ charity horse race at York Races on Saturday 11th June. The race started in 2012 and sees members of the public (i.e. me!) completing six months of jockey training and fundraising before riding in front of around 25,000 people in the iconic race. Each jockey including myself has pledged to raise at least £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and since its inception over £1.2 million has been raised for people living with cancer – quite remarkable.

Having the benefit of living and working for a bloodstock insurance company in Newmarket, the ‘Home of Horseracing’, I am riding out every day for a trainer in town which is great fun.

The 'Ride of their Lives' race is one of the biggest charity races in the country and has generated some press which is quite exciting.

The support so far has been phenomenal. If anyone who would like to contribute to my challenge and donate to the fantastic charity that is Macmillan Cancer Support, I would be so grateful."
