OS in Charity Boxing Match
8 April 2022
Georgia Flawn-Thomas (Nugent 18) took part in a Charity Boxing match and father, Mark (Grenville 72) was there to report on the event.
Mark writes, "Last week my daughter, Georgia took part in The Fighter, a charity boxing event organised by Bristol University. We all thought she was a bit mad, but she showed great courage in the ring and won her bout against the favourite. Cleo Leather (West 19) also took part in the event. She was matched against the top seed, and had a tougher contest. A special mention goes to their excellent coach, Matt Fenwick, Ex Royal Marines who runs Empire Fighting Chance which provides social care for children from deprived neighbourhoods in Bristol.
Georgia was supported by her ring guys, Max Flawn-Thomas (Grafton 20), Dave Dooley and (Grafton 20), Cleo by Estelle Ackroyd-Hunt (Nugent 19) and Clemmie Young (West 19). The girls have made us very proud, showing endurance, commitment to training, and determination throughout. To get up in front of an audience of 2,000 spectators, and take a battering for a good cause showed real courage and great Stoic character.
The event was held at the O2 academy in Bristol and 12 girls and 20 boys took part. Together they raised £50K in in support of the Red Cross, and other mental health charities."
