OS Corkscrew: The Sheer Variety in Champagne
19 June 2019
Last night, over 50 Old Stoics gathered at Tadpoles Nursery School, Chelsea, for a Champagne tasting evening with expert sommelier, Guy Boursot. Guy’s family were among the first to import Champagne into England in the 18th Century and he continues the tradition with his company to this day.
Guy led us through a selection of seven Champagnes, keeping everyone entertained with his expert knowledge of Champagne, witty stories and party tricks for the duration. Zara White (Lyttelton 06) served an arrange of delicious canapés. To bring the evening to a close, Guy treated our guests to Sabrage – the technique for opening a bottle with a sword.
This was the second Corkscrew event that Guy had hosted for us and proved just as interesting and enjoyable as the first.
We are very keen to run a Champagne tasting tour to France in May 2020, which Guy has kindly agreed to organise for us. If you are interested in joining us, please do email the Old Stoic Office oldstoic@stowe.co.uk or call 01280 818349.
Our thanks go to Charlie Dimpfl (Chatham 66) and his wife Clare, for allowing us to use Tadpoles Nursery School, Zara White (Lyttelton 06) for catering the event and to Guy Boursot for providing and hosting a fun filled Champagne tasting.
