Old Stoic Sports Day

22 March 2016

On Sunday, we held our first Old Stoic Sports Day for many years and, happily, it was a raving success! We held matches against Stoics in five different sports, including Cross Country, Football, Lacrosse, Fives and Hockey, as well as laying on egg and spoon and sack races for children. We welcomed over one hundred Old Stoics and guests for the day, with the majority taking part in various OS teams and others giving their support from the sidelines.

Everyone met up and socialised in the Music Room with a delicious lunch and match tea, laid on by Geoff and his fantastic catering team. The food was terrific, with soup, bacon butties, sandwiches and cakes-a-plenty.

The results were mixed, with Old Stoics taking victories in Fives and Football but losing the Hockey, Lacrosse and Cross Country. Special Stowe medals were awarded to the children who took part in the fun sports day races on the Bursar’s Lawn.

The day was such a great success we will certainly hold it again next year. I would like to thank everyone who lent a hand, as well as the sports staff who arranged the matches against our Old Stoic teams.

Finally, I would like to congratulate Georgia Flawn-Thomas and Emma Grayson (both Nugent 5th Form) for their excellent organisation of the first Stowe Colour Run, which took place alongside the OS Sports Day and was enjoyed by all the Old Stoics who watched and Stoics who took part.
