Old Stoic Racing Club

12 June 2020

The Old Stoic Racing Club is dusting off it's blue and yellow racing silks read for the return of horse racing. With no racing for 76 days, June marked a momentous step forward for the sport to showcase it's appeal to a wider audience and response to Coronavirus.

Bourbon Beauty - our mare in training with Alex Hales (Chandos 1992) - is currently on her summer holidays. She had a promising first season placing three times from four races with the highlight being third in the Listed Mares Bumper at Kempton at 25/1 ridden by Harry Bannister (Chatham 2012). A good team effort all round from the Stoics and an iconic moment for the Old Stoic Society to have owners, trainer and jockey all as past pupils in a top race!

Jonathan Portman (Chatham 1983) is our trainer on the flat. The OSRC had a memorable summer last year with their horse Mild Illusion winning three times from eight starts including a Listed race at Newmarket on ITV Racing. She also shortlisted for a special achievement award at the annual Racehorse Owners Awards in London, which members of the OSRC attended

She will be some act to follow however our focus this year is through two new horses - Dancing Fleet, a good looking son of French Navy - and a filly called Sheila O'Shea.

Sheila O'Shea will make her debut first potentially at Kempton over six furlongs on 20th or 23rd June.

Please keep watching our social media channels for news.

The OSRC has kindly agreed also to continue supporting the Stowe School Foundation by donating 15% of any prize money earned by any horse. To date the Club has raised £16,000 to help support bursaries and scholarships for a new generation of Stoics.

Both Clubs are now full however we hope to establish more opportunities for Old Stoics, parents and friends of Stowe to become involved in the Racing Club's activities over the coming months including yard visits and trips to the races.
