Old Stoic Golfing Society April 2023 Update

We have 5 fixtures in April and May, including two Centenary events, and extra players are needed for three of them.

Several new Under 30s have joined the Society over the last month and we welcome more players of all eras and standards.

If you want to play just contact the relevant Match or Meeting Manager detailed below. If you have a query contact me.

Results

Match v The School at Woking 7th March:

The Stowe team got revenge for their Sunningdale defeat with a 5-0 win over Peter Jarvis, Greg Choyce, Ben Wackett, Orlando MacDonald Buchanan (2018 leaver on OSGS Debut) and Arthur Fenwicke-Clennell (2018 leaver on OSGS Debut). Unfortunately the boost to the School team's confidence was followed by overnight snow leading to the Micklem Trophy's postponement.

Birkdale Bucket at Woodhall Spa 16-17th March: Success for Stowe!

Nick Rice and Arthur Fenwicke-Clennell were Stowe's only representatives but performed so well that winning the Wooden Spoon was avoided.

Nick scored an excellent 39 points and came third of 54 players. Arthur on debut in the Bucket, scored 38 for 5th place and also won the trophy for best score by an under 40 year old. The following day in the foursomes Arthur also combined superbly with Gary Hartley from Giggleswick to come second and thereby make a very significant profit on the weekend from his auction winnings.

Congratulations to Nick and Arthur and let's ensure we have a better Stowe turn out next year (27/28th March in 2024)

Halford Hewitt at Royal St Georges & Deal 30th March - 2nd April:

After excellent preparations organised by Captain Jean-Michel Hall, Stowe lost very narrowly to Glenalmond at Royal St Georges. Charlie Rotheroe and Max Faulkner (Hewitt debut) won their match and Jean-Michel and Ollie Clarke were leading when Glenalmond scored their third point in a tight match against Hugo Douglass and Will Berner (Hewitt debut). In the plate, Stowe drew further tough opposition in Shrewsbury and lost 2.5-0.5. There were plenty of positives to take from this year as Stowe continued their comeback to be more competitive in both the Halford Hewitt and Grafton Morrish.
