Max Dodd-Noble (Walpole 12) The Lewa Marathon
19 July 2018
On Saturday 30 June, the following Old Stoics took part in the gruelling Lewa Marathon to raise money for The Tusk Trust and the Tristan Voorspuy Conservation Trust. Max Dodd Nobel (Walpole 12), Imogen Voorspuy (Lyttelton 12), Chloe Stewart (Nugent 12), Annabel Duthie (Lyttelton 12), Octavia Trevor (Lyttelton 12), Charlotte Cook (Lyttelton 12), Archie Nesbitt (Bruce 12) and Ed Pettifer (Walpole 12).
As requested, Max has given us a report of the group’s experience in northern Kenya.
Max says, “The Marathon was amazing and we had the most life changing experience out there. Incredibly, I adored the run and the only downside was when all of the runners came to a stop on the first lap to let the rhinos cross the track! The helicopters did an excellent job of scaring almost all of the lions away!
The first lap was steady and the temperature bearable, but whilst completing the second lap, temperatures soared to 32 degrees and our abilities were tested. There seemed to be very few runners present and we felt very alone.
During the run, the views of the game park were breath taking. We also saw Rhinos, Zebra, Ostridge, and Crocodiles. They had a two helicopters and a plane following us around the route, as well as a large group of park rangers, to make sure that we were not eaten along the way!
The euphoria and relief that we felt after the finish was phenomenal - we were exhausted but happy. I am pleased to report that we raised an amazing £25,000 for Tusk and TVCT. Thank you to everyone who supported us and contributed to these worthwhile causes”.
